Naxos mythical past in a food tour blast

Timeless myths, food for thought & young foodies in action!

If your children have seen the Percy Jackson & the Olympians movies but aren’t quite sure how the ancient gods ‘live on’ in ‘real- life Greece,’ this is an exciting chance to find out why and how. And, if your kids love food, then this tour is a perfect fit for your family. Through visuals and storytelling, we invite our young travelers and their parents to learn about Naxos’ mythology in a tour that combines local history with a sensational food experience. Our tour begins at the “Portara” dedicated to the god Apollo who was born just across the water on the little island of Delos. Once we set the magical scene, we continue to prove the facts at a real archeological dig setting the stage for the times of Homer, the greatest storyteller whose legacy, ‘the Odyssey’ describes the travels of Odysseus on his return to Greece after the Trojan War. Taking a turn from the legendary past, we follow the footsteps of the powerful Dukes of the Middle Ages up to the Venetian Castle and medieval Old Town with its historic buildings. On the way down, gods and heroes come to life in the mythological stories of Naxos as we pass colorful fruit stands, a wood oven bakery and discover Aristaeus -the ancient god of cheese, while savoring authentic Naxian cheeses at an authentic cheese shop. After sampling some local organic greek superfood snacks in a traditional grocery store, we conclude our food experience with delicious ice cream made from fresh milk produced by the 10.000 cows living on Naxos island!
